Sherry Beth Henry Obituary

Our dear mother, Sherry Beth Henry, nee Fletcher, age 77, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2024, at her residence in Fairview Heights, Illinois, with her family by her side. Sherry was born on February 22, 1947, in Santa Monica, California, to John W. and Artie L. Fletcher, nee Clancy. She was a devoted wife, loving mother to three daughters, and a cherished grandmother and great-grandmother.

Sherry was a wonderful mother who loved her family immensely. She loved giving good gifts and developed a reputation for going overboard at Christmas. She would generously share anything she had with anyone in need. Sherry was a faithful member of the Fairview Heights Church of Christ for 35 years and she sang at numerous weddings and funerals over the years as a member of the Lamplighters choral group.

One of Sherry’s greatest pleasures was gathering with family and friends for meals at her favorite restaurants. She cherished these moments of laughter, companionship, and good food shared with the people she held most dear. She adored her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren, and her little dog Pixie.

Sherry married her high school sweetheart, Michael R. Henry, at age 18 and together they owned and managed IHOP restaurants in Clayton, Missouri, and Belleville, Illinois, for 25 years. She also worked at a Christian bookstore (On a Leap of Faith) and at Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 2021.

Our mother was a courageous woman who suffered many hardships in life. She became a widow at age 61, lost her daughter Michelle Ashby nee Henry to cancer in 2021, and endured numerous painful health challenges. Through it all she remained a faithful follower of Jesus and trusted Him with her life.

Sherry will be remembered for her kindness, warmth, and unwavering love for her family. Her legacy lives on through her daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those who were blessed to know her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Michael R. Henry; her daughter, Michelle L. Ashby nee Henry; her father, John W. Fletcher; her mother Artie L. nee Clancy, Barbarick; her stepfather, Arthur H. Barbarick; her brother Ronald W. Fletcher, and her sister Charlotte A. Myers nee Fletcher.

She is survived by her daughters Suzanne M. (Stephen) Stumne of Bentonville, Arkansas, Jennifer D. (Daniel) Morris, of Fairview Heights, Illinois, her grandchildren Corey M. (Meghin) Stumne, Abbie E. (Ben) Treme, Chase A. Stumne, Mackenna C. Ashby, Reese H. Ashby, Nathan S. Morris, Gracie L. Morris, Hayden A. Morris, and several great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Camp Ne-O-Tez, c/o Fairview Heights Church of Christ, 9955 Bunkum Rd, Fairview Heights, IL 62208.

A memorial service to celebrate Sherry’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday March 23, 2024, at Fairview Heights Church of Christ.
